EIGHT City of Newport Swimming Club members will be travelling to Sheffield later this month to compete in the prestigious British Gas ASA National Youth and Age Group Championships. The event, held at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, will see the top swimmers from England, Wales and Scotland compete for national honours. Qualifiers are:

  • Youth: David Booth (aged 21), Ross Andrews (18), Elizabeth Smith (16), Louise Bell (16), Cameron Brown (15)
  • Disability: Jonathan Eke (aged 16, S10 classified)
  • Age Groups: Emily Peacock (14), Tristan Cuer (14)

The British ASA National Swimming Championships are an extremely prestigious event and to have eight qualifying swimmers is a huge achievement for the City of Newport Swimming Club. I am very proud of the swimmers reaching this standard of excellence and wish them all the best as they look to take on the very best swimmers from around Britain.

The City of Newport Swimming Club took part in four action packed days of competition over the Easter weekend at the Welsh Age Group and Youth Championships in Swansea. Our swimmers produced some excellent performances winning numerous medals and making it through to many finals. The standout performances of the meet came from Tristan Cuer and Lewis Waters. Tristan gained his first ever British National qualifying in winning the 100m Breaststroke. This now takes the number of Newport swimmers who have achieved the qualifying for this summer’s prestigious British Nationals to seven. Lewis was consistently excellent over the whole meet winning a total of five medals from five swims.

Well done to all the swimmers who competed!
