Miriam hid her sex from her strict Muslim moms and dads for a long time. Them, she found it impossible to translate “lesbian” into Punjabi or Urdu when she eventually did come out to. She describes the way the conversation put a conclusion to her dual life “playing the right woman” but caused a rift therefore deep that her dad disowned her.
