April was a very busy month for the clubs elite level swimmers. Cameron Brown and Elizabeth Smith travelled to Glasgow for the British Swimming Championships. The meet doubled as the selection trials for the Scottish, English and Welsh Commonwealth Games teams, and therefore all of the best senior swimmers from across Great Britain were in attendance. It was a real achievement by Cameron and Elizabeth just to swim the qualifying standards for such a prestigious meet. The highlight from a Newport point of view came from Cameron, who swam a very fast 1.52.16s to finish third in the junior final of the men’s 200m freestyle.

 

The following week, 30 of our swimmers headed to Swansea for the Swim Wales National Age Group, Youth and Senior Championships. Almost all who competed recorded new personal best times and qualified for finals, and many won medals for top 3 finishes. The top medal winner for the club was Megan Allison with an amazing 5 medals. Our other medallists at the championships were:

Erin Bryce (Gold: 100 Bk, Silver 200 Bk, Silver 4 x 100 Medley relay)
